PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD
This unit standard requires of learners to demonstrate the ability to monitor, advise and report on compliance with legislation regarding hazardous substances.

Learners credited with this unit standard are capable of:

Monitoring, advising, and reporting on the scope and understanding of the specified requirements as regards hazardous substances in a workplace.
Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to the application of methods in preventing exposure to hazardous substances in a workplace.
Demonstrating knowledge pertaining to the classification, physical state, health effects, and disposal methods of hazardous substances in a workplace.

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING
The Unit Standard outcomes and credits are based on the assumption that learners attempting this Unit Standard can already read, write and communicate at NQF Level 3 or equivalent.

Notional Hours – Notional learning hours are the estimated learning time taken by the ‘average’ student to achieve the specified learning outcomes of the course unit or program.

3 Credits = 30 hours = 4 days Total
2 days theory (Class time) 2 days Practical in a workplace

Notional learning time includes teaching contact time (lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical’s, workshops,
fieldwork etc.), time spent on preparing and carrying out formative and summative assessments (written
coursework, oral presentations, exams, etc.) and time spent on private study, workplace Implementation.
